Copenhagen is Denmark's capital and local authority for over 500 000 inhabitants occupying the area of 1,627 sq. km. In the greater metropolitan area there are more than 1.8 million inhabitants.
The City of Copenhagen is actively involved in the development of the Øresund Region which is comprised by the regions of Zealand, Lolland-Falster, Møn and Bornholm in Denmark and Skåne in Sweden. The city is also participating in the building of the Øresund Science Region together with the universities and business sector.
On the Danish side of Øresund Region there are 10 universities and a multitude of research institutions. The City of Copenhagen pays an important attention to the stimulating co-operation between researchers, businesses and venture capital companies.
