Stockholm – the Environmental Capital in 2010

Stockholm will be the first Environmental Capital in Europe. Stockholm was awarded the designation of Environmental Capital for 2010 by the European Commission. The prize is awarded to a city that shows excellence in showing the way to a more environmentally friendly cityscape, with a continual record of results and improvements in environmental work. Stockholm has also succeeded in reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by 25 percent per resident since 1990, and intends to run without fossil fuels by 2050. Back
